Tax return 2026

You can now submit your tax return online or consult and modify your proposed simplified return via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web) if necessary. We will only send you the tax return or the proposed simplified return by post in specific cases. Do you need help? We offer you a range of options.
  • In principle, you have to file a tax return every year.

If your tax situation is relatively simple, with only certain income or information to declare, we make it easier for you: you will probably receive a “proposal for a simplified tax return“. If you have received a proposal for a simplified tax return, you must in principle no longer fill a tax return form. Always check your pre-filled data.

    • If the details of this proposal are correct and complete, you do not need to take any further action.
    • If the details of this proposal are incorrect or incomplete, you will have to modify the proposal.

If you do not receive a proposal for a simplified tax return, you must file a tax return.

Do you need to file a non-resident income tax return? This will be possible as from September.

In any case, you can easily deal with the necessary formalities online via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web).

    Deadlines 2026

    • 30 June 2026: if you return the documents to us by post (paper return form or paper form modification form in case of a proposal for a simplified return).
    • 15 July 2026: if you use MyMinfin (Tax-on-web) (to file your tax return or modify your proposal for a simplified return).
    • 16 October 2026: if you use MyMinfin (Tax-on-web) to enter your tax return and you declare specific income (income from a self-employed person, foreign professional income ...).
    • I won't be able to file my return on time. Can I request a deadline extension?

      Conditions

In exceptional cases, an extension may be granted, subject to the following conditions:

      • Your request must reach us within the specified deadline. For example, no later than 30 June if you want to file a paper tax return.
      • Your request must be based on a case of force majeure or a serious reason. This is an unforeseen, unavoidable event beyond your control, for example:
        • you are seriously ill
        • your documents have disappeared due to theft or fire
        • etc.

Do you have a problem with your identity card, itsme, MyGov.be, Smart-ID and/or PIN code and are you unable to get access to MyMinfin (Tax-on-web)? Unfortunately, we are unable to give you an extension in this case.

      How to send your request?

To request a deadline extension, contact us and provide us with the following information:

      • Your name, first name and national number
      • if you file your tax return online or by post
      • whether or not you have specific income.
      • the reasons for your request
      • The deadline you request in this case.

We will examine your request and let you know whether or not we agree.

      If we do not agree

If you are unable to obtain a deadline extension, we suggest that you file your return as soon as possible.

    • What happens if the tax return is late or not filed?

File your tax return as soon as possible. Persons who file their tax returns late (or not at all) risk a fine and/or a tax increase. However, we take into account the specific circumstances of each case.

Besides, we can use the “automatic taxation procedure”. This means that we determine the amount of your tax based on the information available to us and that it is up to you to prove the exact amount of your taxable income.

  • Online via MyMinfin (Tax-on-web)

You don't want to file your tax return online and you haven't yet received your tax return form or proposal for a simplified tax return? Contact us as from early June.

    • Can I receive the tax return form or proposal for a simplified tax return in another language?

You can consult the documents related to the tax return form in FrenchDutch and German on this site.

You are living in Brussels or in a “commune à facilités” (A municipality whose inhabitants have the right to use a national language other than that of the linguistic region in which they reside in their contacts with the municipal administration)

According to the municipality in which you reside, you can receive the documents:

      • Either in French or in Dutch,
      • Either in French or in German

Please note that we cannot send you back documents you have already received drawn up in another language. However, you can ask us to send you your documents in another language in the future. To do this, contact us.

It may take several weeks to process your request. In the meantime, you may still receive documents in the other language.

You are living elsewhere than in Brussels or in a “commune à facilités” (A municipality whose inhabitants have the right to use a national language other than that of the linguistic region in which they reside in their contacts with the municipal administration)?

Unfortunately, we are not able to send you these documents in another language. The language in which you receive your documents depends on the language of your municipality in which you reside.

You have moved house this year

We take into account your situation on 1 January of this year.

Have someone else fill your tax return

You can ask someone you know (family, friend, etc.) to fill your tax return online for you, thanks to a secure mandate system. You and the person mandated in this case must both sign the mandate digitally.

    • Would you like our staff to fill out your tax return? Please book an appointment online as soon as possible for assistance with filling out your tax return over the phone. After 29 June 2026, we will no longer be able to assist you.

You will find information on how to make an appointment on your tax return envelope or in the letter from the FPS Finance explaining how to file your tax return.
Please note: this service is only available in French, Dutch, or German, depending on your municipality of residence.

It is also possible to have your tax return filed by a qualified accountant. Contact your qualified accountant in due time in this case. Your qualified accountant will create a mandate in our secure application. You will then have to sign this mandate.

    • I have not yet received my pension statement. What must I do?

You do not always need your pension statement:

    • Can I calculate my tax without logging into MyMinfin?

Use our application Tax-Calc to get an estimate of your tax amount. Using Tax-Calc is anonymous and does not require to be logged into.

    • Why has the amount of my tax changed compared with last year?

Sometimes you have to pay more or you receive a lower amount than the last year. To understand the reason for this difference, you can compare the data from the two returns (or proposal of simplified tax return) concerned.

      Possible explanations are:

      • Your payroll tax has decreased (for example, if you have changed jobs or are retired). The payroll tax is deducted each month from your salary, pension, etc. as a sort of “provision” on the amount of final tax.
      • One or more people are no longer dependent on you (if your children no longer live at your address, for example).
      • You have bought a second house or flat.
      • You no longer have any expenses that qualify for a tax reduction (for example, if you have paid off your mortgage in full).
      • You are now taxed separately - and therefore no longer jointly - due to a (de facto) separation, the death of your partner, etc.
      • ...
    • Can I terminate a mandate given to an accountant?

You can terminate yourself your mandate at any time. You do not necessarily need to inform your accountant thereof.

Please note that once the mandate has been revoked, your accountant will no longer be able to submit your tax return.

You can do this as follows: log into the “Mandats/Mandates“ application, click on the mandate you wish to terminate and follow the steps on the screen.

Please note that for security reasons, our employees do not have access to your mandate. There is therefore no need to contact them to request your mandate be revoked.

  • After sending your tax return

You want to check whether we have received your tax return?

The status of your tax return is mentioned in MyMinfin > My Tax return. Does it mention that we have received your tax return? Everything's in order, you don't have to do anything more.

    This is not the case?

    • If you filed your tax return via MyMinfin, you must click on “Send” after consulting the summary of your tax return. If you are submitting a joint tax return, you and your partner must each log in (in turn), open the tax return and click on “Send”.
    • If a qualified accountant has filed your return for you, it may take several days between your appointment and the sending of your tax return. Please check again later.
    • If you have sent your tax return by post, it must first be scanned. This may take a few weeks. Please check again later.

You want to correct your tax return?

You have filed your tax return (or you have received a proposal for a simplified tax return) and then you notice an error or that someting is missing? Depending on the situation, you can correct your tax return online or contact us.

We will send you your final tax calculation

If you have filed a tax return or received a proposal for a simplified tax return (even if you have not modified it), we will send you your tax assessment notice between August 2026 and the end of June 2027. This document provides a detailed view of the final calculation of your tax and tells you how much you have to pay or how much we will refund.
