If you still cannot log into MyMinfin, you can still get access to a tax return without authentication. You will need your Belgian national register number or Belgian bis number. You can read here our website the step by step procedure on how to file a tax return without authentication.

    Please note:

    • For security reasons, the tax return does not contain pre-filled information.
    • You cannot get access to your tax return after you have sent it.
    • You cannot attach any document to your tax return.
    • You cannot add or change your bank account number in your tax return.

Opening the tax return without authentication

  • Frequently asked questions when filing online non-resident income tax return

    • How do I get an estimate of my tax amount?

Before sending your tax return, click on “Calculate your tax” in the menu at the top of the screen. You will then get an estimated amount of your tax.

Please note that this is only an estimate. In some cases, there may be a difference with the final calculation of your tax amount, as stated in your Tax assessment notice (tax calculation).

You don’t see anything appearing on screen? This is probably because your browser blocks pop-up messages. Open the pop-up via the notification at the top or bottom of your screen or change your browser settings.

In some specific cases, we cannot calculate your tax amount at that time. This does not impact your tax return in any way, you can send it immediately.

    • Can I add or change my account number in my non-resident income tax return?

      • You can add or change your bank account number in MyMinfin.
      • You can add or change your bank account number when you receive your Tax assessment notice (the procedure is explained in that document).
      • If you do not have access to MyMinfin and file a tax return without authentication, you will not be able to enter your bank account number for security reasons. In this case, you can do so when you receive your tax assessment notice.
    • I try to open the tax return, but I get the message that I am not non-resident. What should I do?

It may happen that you are - wrongly - not recognised as non-resident. In that case, contact the competent department.

Our employees will only help you in French, Dutch or German. For legal reasons, they cannot use English or any other language.

  • Filing online a joint non-resident income tax return

    • I am filing a joint tax return. How can my partner sign the tax return?

If you file your tax return via MyMinfin, your partner must also have access to the tax return via MyMinfin in order to be able to sign it.

If you submit your tax return without authentication, one signature will be enough.

It means you can fill in your tax return using your national register number/bis number or your partner’s register/bis number.

    • How do I file my joint tax return online if my partner does not have access to MyMinfin and therefore is unable to sign the return?

With a mandaat 'belastingaangifte burger'/Mandate “citizen's tax return” you can sign your tax return in your own name as well as in your partner’s name.

      How does it work?

      • Fill it in this form and send it to us, with the requested documents, by e-mail: tax.belgium@minfin.fed.be.
      • Our employees will then create the mandate in the name of the partner who does not have access to MyMinfin.
      • You will receive an e-mail of confirmation.
      • You must sign the mandate in the Toepassing Mandaten/Mandates application to activate it.
      • Once the mandate is active, you can get access to your partner's MyMinfin file and sign the tax return in their name.

More information on how to get access to the MyMinfin file of a relative.

    • I am married or legally cohabiting, but I cannot enter my partner's codes. What should I do?

If you are married or legally cohabiting, you and your partner must file a joint tax return. For most codes, you need to fill in two columns.

If you only see one column in the tax return form, it means we do not know you are married or legally cohabiting. In that case, we ask you to report to us and rectify your family situation.

You must submit your tax return by mail. Next year, you’ll be able to file your tax return online (if you have rectified your family situation beforehand).

    • My tax return form mentions my partner, but they died or I am divorced. What should I do?

If the death or divorce occurred in 2023 or earlier, you must file a tax return as a single person now.

If you see two columns in the tax return form, it means that we do not know that you are divorced or that your partner died. In that case, we ask you to report to us and rectify your family situation.
