Getting your tax refund abroad
-
Moving abroad soon?
Are you soon moving abroad and want to make sure that you will get your tax refund? Make sure to send us now your bank account number (Belgian or foreign) before your tax refund is processed.
If we do not have your bank account number at the time of your tax refund, then the payment will not be executed. Therefore, please make sure that your notice of assessment includes the correct bank account number.
Additionally, communicate your postal address abroad to the municipality where you are currently residing. This ensures that your official foreign address is recorded in the Belgian National Register. This will allow us to send all correspondence (e.g., your tax return and notice of assessment) to this address.

Already living abroad?
You are entitled to a tax refund and are wondering if we can execute the transfer to your foreign bank account? This is possible. If your bank account number is already known to us, it will be shown in your notice of assessment.
What if my bank account number is not shown in the notice of assessment?
You will need to communicate your bank identity certificate (RIB) issued by your bank. This contains:
- IBAN
- BIC Code
- Bank account holder’s name
- Name of the banking institution
- For certain countries (e.g., the United States), your bank’s “routing number”
Send us these data through our contact form. Note that the contact form is not available in English.
Be aware that once the information is received, it may take several weeks for the refund to appear on your account.
What if the FPS Finance does not know your bank account number?
If we do not know your bank account number at the time your tax refund is processed, the payment will be blocked. For this reason, this is essential to ensure your bank account number is correctly shown in your notice of assessment.
